Directions1. Cut the paper plate in half, laying the sides on top of one another. Using the glue, seal about two-thirds of the rounded sides. Leave a wide opening at the top along the flat edge of the plate, for Baby Moses to peak out of his basket. Set aside until the glue has thoroughly dried.2. Using scissors, cut a small slit in the middle of the glued, rounded bottom. 3. Decorate the basket with crayons. Lightly crumble tissue paper and glue on the inside of the flat edges of the plate to represent the baby blanket. Again, allow the glue to dry thoroughly. 4. Insert a craft stick into the slit and up through the top of the flat edge of the plate. 5. Cut carefully around the baby picture to remove all the background. You should have just the baby image left. Glue the picture onto the craft stick. Pull down the stick so that just the head of the baby "peaks" out of the basket. (You can move the baby up and down with the stick, if you wish.) Author CommentsOne of the quintessential stories of Passover is that of Baby Moses. Moses' mother Yocheved was so desperate to save her newborn son from Pharaoh's decree to kill every Israelite boy that she hid him in a basket along the side of the River Nile. Moses' sister Miriam watched over him until one day, Pharaoh's daughter came to the river and found the baby. She took Moses back to her father's palace to raise as her own son. Of course, the child -- who never forgot that he was an Israelite -- would grow to be the hero of the Passover story, freeing the Israelites from centuries of bondage in Egypt. This fun-to-make craft is a great way to share the story of Baby Moses. And, since it incorporates a baby picture of your child as Moses, he or she is sure to especially enjoy the project. |
